My Design Path
Reaction to 3 Designers Article
I am a Graphic Design minor here at RWU. I feel that as design students, our educational experience should be shifted. I feel as if we are still be taught to be that traditional designer with a long portfolio. So honestly, I don’t really see myself in any of these three categories. That being said, I have only taken the introduction classes here at RWU, so maybe I will start to see myself becoming one of these three designers in the future. I could most likely see myself becoming the deep specialist. When I am really good at something I do it over and over until I am amazing at it. For example I have been doing dance since I was 8. In my elementary, middle, and high school years, I was a block shaped generalist. I did a little bit of every style. I took many styles of dance classes. But now here at RWU I am like a deep specialist. I realized how great I was at hip hop and how it was my favorite style. I now only really do hip hop instead of doing an array of styles, which has definitely made me a “specialist” here in hip hop. I also apply this mindset in other ways throughtout my life, in my photography, other art projects, and even the way I go about life. My mindset is that, if I am really good at something, I just going to keep doing that one thing. I would rather be outstanding at one thing than be “good” at everything else. In addition, AI cannot be outstanding. AI can be good, but it cannot get to that outstanding level (at least not right now). Being outstanding at one thing would help to seperate me from AI. If I can do something AI can’t, that will really make me shine.
